Darvaza gas crater

The Door to Hell, or Darvaza gas crater, is a burning natural gas field in Turkmenistan's Karakum Desert. It formed in 1971 when a Soviet drilling rig collapsed during a natural gas exploration. This accidental collapse resulted in a large crater that has been burning continuously ever since, creating a fiery spectacle.
